Disney’s popular series Kim
Possible got a made-for-TV film around Thanksgiving of 2003. Starring Christy
Carlson Romano, Will Friedle, Nancy Cartwright, Gary Cole, Dakota Fanning,
Nicole Sullivan, Kelly Ripa, and John DiMaggio, A Sitch in Time is the first of two films based on the series.
After Ron (Friedle) moves to Norway, Drakken (DiMaggio), Duff Killigan (Brian George), Monkey
Fist (Tom Kane), and Shego (Sullivan) find a time traveling monkey statue. Now, Kim (Romano) and Ron have to
deal a split team while fighting to correct an altered time stream.
Of all the direct to video or direct to television movies
Disney made based on their television series, A Sitch in Time is actually really fun. Even while using time
travel as a plot device, the story isn’t as convoluted and confusing as it
could be. In fact, Drakken’s plan to break Kim in her past is actually pretty
good. It might be the only thing he ever got right if Kim wasn’t following him.
The points in the past the villains end up going to are also
good. While trying to ruin the timeline, they not only bring Kim and Ron together,
but cement Kim in her world-saving persona. This also ties well into the twist
with who actually ended up controlling the world, which is also properly hidden
as well. It’s also not completely obvious and shows just how superior Shego
really is compared to Draken.
There’s also a couple brick jokes that don’t fall flat. Ron
noting the muscles of everyone in the future is funny and his dad’s ability to
work from anywhere comes in at a good moment for comedic relief.
