Filmed alongside the second film, Back to the Future Part III was the final installment of the film
series. Taking place immediately following the previous film’s events, it was
the sixth-highest grossing film of 1990, earning $244.53 million. It starred
everyone from the first two, plus Mary Steenburgen
While in 1955, Marty (Michael J. Fox) is given a letter from
Doc (Christopher Lloyd) notifying that he had become trapped in 1885 and makes
plans to head back to 1985. But he finds a tombstone with Doc’s name dated six
days after the letter was written. Marty must then travel to 1885 in order stop
Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson) from killing him.
This may be the weakest of the trilogy, but that doesn’t
stop it from being a good and fun movie. It also presents a brand new problem
in the realm of getting back to the present. Instead of not being able to have
the power for the Flux Capacitor, they now don’t have any fuel and need to find
a way to get the car to run in a time before the Model T.
Seeing the clock tower being built is also a nice addition
and does well in showing the humble origins of Hill Valley. The running gag of
Marty waking up from a head injury is also continued and comes to a nice head
here.
Having Doc fall in love even though he really doesn’t want
to is interesting and finally gives him a dilemma instead of just Marty. Going
back and forth throughout the movie on what he really wants to do is very
relatable and helps to solidify his choice at the end.
This still passes the Edge of Satisfaction and lands at #3
for Comedy.
